from this comes
seasoned mash, bloated cramps.

I'm a twit-poet dropping verse like dimes and rolling up stanzas like George Costanza... auto correct and I lay down lines and fly-bys leavin' suckas in ties.

i don't want
in the end
too late

Resolution: 2011

I'm only 4 months late...

Resolution 2011:
"be better."

well, that's it.
thanks!

a thousand

dark courses
snarling corpses
deteriorate
mulch for many
contemplate next
time shares
i can't recall
wounded soldier
return to me
if ever longing
surprise
flee from here
partitioned brains
comprehend less
thoughtful things
drag myself from here to there
forced
fodder for
i can't recall.

First Timers

There's something to be said for keeping things short.  I can safely say things have changed.
Nothing can stop us now!

5.22.2010

open letter to my unborn sun…

Odin.  Hard to believe you’re only days away from the world now.  I’ve been seeing you grow, feeling you kick, hearing your heart beat.  I’m in awe of you, in awe of my ability to create life.
I’m not sure how to quantify the range the feelings, from great inspiration to fear.  What crazy plans are in store?  How many dragons will have to conquer, or abyssal trenches explore?  Can I live up to the expectations people have of me as a father?  Can I instill in you the values and beliefs my parents instilled in me?  Will you have to go through the same experiences I did?  How can I ensure you question authority, while at the same listen when necessary?
I can’t imagine what lies ahead.  Will the next 34 years pass as quickly as the first?  I can hope, but more than likely they’ll pass much faster.  Will one day I be waiting for the phone call from you telling me I’m a grandfather?

I’d walk in front of a bus for you, son.

Odin Jedi Fickeisen, listen, read, understand.  I won’t be here forever.  I won’t be here forever to listen, advise, love.  Listen to your heart.  Find balance.  Listen to and pursue your passions.  I hope you can find the internal motivation that I’ve always lacked to follow your dreams to their end.  Find the time to follow through with what you want.  It’s not too late for me to set the example for you.  It will never be too late for you either.  Don’t be afraid to speak your mind.
Don’t be afraid to tell people how you feel, to tell people you love them.  Know that you are the most amazing person, that you have the power to do anything.
Swim upstream, climb down the ladder, fight the current, enter the exit, stand on the escalator, be the last out, watch the credits, read more, listen to people, laugh, cry…
You have the power.
Infinite power.

30 days... day 29.

I will not make reference to, or remark on, my inability to follow through.
That being said...

slips this kindred spirit
awash among swampy ruins
slithering mist hugs mossy ground
watched by careful eyes
drags wet body from watery grave
minions among devils, kings, lords
underneath calls, craving
grasping, knowing, now clinging
iron and steel, rusted
as man begins again.

30 days... day 22.
how time flies.
Just moments ago I was tapping out thoughts on day 16.  I would like to go into details about my week, but parameters of this process prevent it.
needless to say, it's been fun.

level the field.

30 days... day 16.

ignore the date, the hour is late.
painful mariner loss tonight... ugh.

in other news, May is upon us!
Odin Jedi Fickeisen, Conqueror of the Abyss, all hail His Mightiness, will soon grace us with is immaculate presence.  Swoon at your leisure.

30 days... day 15.

halfway home.
spending coins empty minds.

I'm certain this experiment has gone about as well as expected.
tomorrow comes a relative outburst.

let slip this shallow skiff
sliding among the waves
trailing fingers dripping.

4.27.2010

30 days... day 13.

I force myself this time... but better to force action than succumb to inactivity.  Perhaps good will come from this short scattered collection.  Nowhere to go but up, as they say.
I've claimed my seat on the train.

Cease not your attempts to conquer the abyss.

4.26.2010

30 days... day 12.

I’m not sure how to say this
I’m not sure how to proceed
My mind has taken steps
You see
My mind has erased itself
Erased matter
What mattered
Was not so hard to engage
Presaged what was to come
An often thought of reference
Remember once a friend’s embrace
Easy to forget
What once provided lift
Provided I don’t see you again
Remember I will think of you
At times like this.

30 days... day 11.

okay... 6 of 11 days is not what expected, but over 50 percent.
We took a tour of the childbirth center this weekend; I was impressed.  I'm actually looking forward to eating in the hospital cafeteria.  I have a strange attraction to institutional food, not sure why.

Of course, the coming arrival of Odin is forefront in my mind these days.  I'm unbelievably excited for fatherhood and family... I can do naught but smile.

4.22.2010

30 days... day 8.
I think I have a valid excuse for missing 6 and 7.

I'm looking forward to a summer without cable.  I have a lot of reading to catch up on; an abundance of comics and novels await.
If I can work in some barefoot running, all the better.

Until then I'll continue to rot my brain with mariners in HD and john stewart.

30 days... day 5.

Oh how I long for summer days... the short hours of my evening spent outside just didn't seem right.
I can't say what was missing, out of place, fine reader.  I can only say I yearn for long summer evenings and a 5 AM sunrise.

Perhaps... perhaps those summer evenings, now longed for, will become dreaded nights spent baking in the heat, with fans buzzing, doors and windows flung open...

Perhaps... but right now I yearn, I tell you, I yearn!

30 days... day 4.
enjoyed a sunny day at the safe today... did not catch a walk off grand salami by junior, but there's always next year.
looking forward to annual trips with Odin in tow.  A replica Hernandez jersey will wait in the closet.

I consider this representative.
30 days... day 3.
It's not starting out well, as you can see.
my better half calls... to the gates!
